Baseball Factory Alumni Impact #6
Follow along with us this season as we keep up with current and former Baseball Factory players who are making an impact on their team’s success. We will keep you up-to-date on the latest standout performances at the major league, collegiate and high school levels. This week, we focus on players making an impact at the collegiate and high school levels.
College
Zach Blanden – (National Tryout, Premium Video Program, Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic – 2008) Blanden, a senior at the University of Binghamton, was named American East Player of the Week (April 7-12) after hitting .478 with eight RBI, eight runs scored and a pair of home runs as Binghamton won four of five games.
In a series victory over Hartford in conference play, Blanden went 6-for-13, with back-to-back three-hit games to close the series. In another game, he registered four hits and four RBI in an 18-15, 11-inning win over Canisius on April 8.
Kyle Twomey – (2011 Under Armour All-American) The former All-American is a junior at the University of Southern California and was named USC’s “Student-Athlete of the Week” for the week of April 6-12 after tossing seven scoreless innings against the UCLA Bruins.
Twomey struck out seven Bruins in the 5-0 victory over UCLA allowing seven hits and throwing 112 pitches. Twomey is now 6-1 with a stingy 1.79 ERA in nine starts this season. His 45 strikeouts lead the Trojans.
Tyler Peitzmeier – (Premium Video Program) The senior from Cal State Fullerton is second in the country in saves with 12, one behind Eddie Muhl from George Washington University. Peitzmeier has struck out 32 batters in 23.0 innings pitched this season and has converted his last five saves in a row.
Alex Bregman – (Team One Futures 2009, Under Armour Pre-Season All-American – 2010, 2011) Bregman, a power-hitting infielder for LSU is posting big-time numbers in his junior season, batting .331 with a team-leading seven home runs and 33 RBI. His .601% slugging percentage is second as well as runs scored (35) for the Tigers. Bregman is projected to be selected in the 1st round of the MLB draft this June and could potentially be a Top 10 pick.
High School
Drew Finley – (Team One West 2014) Finley, a senior at Rancho Bernardo in San Diego, California pulled off a huge feat recently, striking out 20 batters in a seven-inning game. Finley, who has committed to the University of Southern California, has an 0.64 ERA, five wins and is holding opponents to a .136 average this season.
Cordell Stephens – (Premium Video Program) Stephens is a junior at Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama. He is having an outstanding season, batting .360 with 35 RBI, 53 runs scored and leads the nation in stolen bases with 58. He’s also walked 29 times and has an on-base percentage of .583.
Juan Hillman – (Under Armour Memorial Day Classic – 2013, Under Armour Futures East – 2013, 2014 Under Armour All-American) Hillman is an outstanding story, coming from Olympia High School in Windermere, Florida as the baseball team is the top-ranked team in the country. Hillman, a commit for the University of Central Florida, is 6-0 with a 1.81 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 31.0 innings pitched this season. He’s also hitting .370 with five doubles.
