Baseball Factory Alumni Impact All Ten Cape Cod League Teams

The preparations for the 2009 Cape Cod Pro Weekly Training are almost complete here at the Baseball Factory and we wanted to take time to recognize the 72 Factory alumni that are participating in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League this year.

The Cape Cod Baseball League is considered the nations premier summer baseball league, featuring collegiate top-tier players and an intensity and talent compared to High-A Minor League Baseball. Baseball Factory has many alumni on all the teams this year, especially the Brewster Whitecaps who have 12 former Baseball Factory players out of 26 on the roster.

Two of the 12 Factory alumni playing for the Brewster Whitecaps this year have shown outstanding improvement from the time they started with the Baseball Factory and throughout their college baseball career. Jarrett Parker, a Stafford, Virginia, native was referred to us by his high school coach and participated in the Team One BWI World Series in 2006. Jarrett is just finished his sophomore season playing for the University of Virginia Cavaliers, batting .355 with 16 home runs and 65 RBI in the 2009 season. He set a UVA single-season record with 94 hits and was a unanimous All-American in the national awards circuit and a First-Team All-ACC pick this season. He also had 20 stolen bases while playing in all 65 of Virginia’s games and was a pick for the Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger All-America Team.

Harold Martinez, another Factory Alum on the Brewster Whitecaps, had a great 2009 season playing for the University of Miami. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 19th round of the 2008 MLB Draft and before that played for USA Baseball on two different levels (18U and 16U). Harold started with the Baseball Factory in 2007, playing in the Cape Cod High School Classic, held at Spillane Field, home of the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape League.

Zack Cox, a Baseball Factory Alum playing for the Cotuit Kettleers, helped lead the Arkansas Razorbacks to the College World Series for the first time since 2004.  Zack hit the first home run of the 2009 College World Series. Prior to Arkansas, Zack played for the Midland Redskins summer team in Cincinnati, Ohio and led the team to a runner-up finish in the Connie Mack World Series. Zack participated in the Cape Cod High School Classic in 2007, powered by Baseball Factory.

Wareham Gatemen player George Springer has seen great success after high school at the University of Connecticut, where he had an outstanding 2009 season.  George became the first UConn player to be named the Big East Rookie of the Year, while earning a spot on the All-Big East First Team. George was also named to the Baseball America Freshman All-America Team. George led UConn with 75 runs scored and 57 RBI’s and was third on the team with 76 hits. He also set the UConn single-season record with 16 home runs, the most by a freshman. George was named Big East Player of the Week on May 3 and one of two UConn players named to the 2009 New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-New England Division I All-Star First Team. He started with the Baseball Factory in 2007 by attending an Under Armour National Tryout in Boston and later the Cape Cod High School Classic, powered by Baseball Factory. George will be playing his summer ball at Spillane Field, the very same field where he made a name for himself at the Cape Cod Classic.

Kevin Rhoderick, another excelling Baseball Factory Alum is playing for the Y-D Red Sox. Kevin originally participated in the Cape Cod High School Classic in 2006, and is now attending Oregon State University.  After an excellent 2009 season Kevin was picked for the NCBWA Freshman All-America First Team, the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America Team, Baseball America Freshman All-America Second Team, Ping! Baseball Freshman All-America and received All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention. He ended the season with a 3-3 record, striking out 33 batters in 23 2/3 innings pitched. During his high school career, Kevin played for Team USA and led Horizon High School to a state championship his senior year.

The staff at Baseball Factory is very proud of all our outstanding Alumni in the Cape Cod Baseball League. Baseball Factory wishes them the best of luck while we watch them strive towards the League Championship.
