Box Score – 2017 Under Armour All-America Game

The 10th annual Under Armour All-America Game, Powered by Baseball Factory, featured two firsts in the game’s history: the first extra-innings game (11 innings) and the first-ever walk-off hit, that made this year’s game one for the record books and one to remember.

UNC commit Jordyn Adams lined a single up the middle in the bottom of the 11th inning, scoring Jarred Kelenic for the winning run, giving the American team a 2-1 victory over the National squad for the team’s first win since 2014.

The game was highlighted by outstanding pitching and defense from both teams, led by University of Arizona commit, Matthew Liberatore, who pitched three innings of relief, striking out five of the 10 batters he faced to pick up the win and MVP honors. Liberatore used his sweeping curve effectively and had a fastball that sat low 90s. American pitcher David Luethje (University of Florida commit) threw an efficient fifth inning, recording the first two outs on five pitches and striking out Joe Gray for the final out, showing a 12-to-6 curve.

On the National side, the pitching kept the game close, highlighted by starter, Kumar Rocker (Vanderbilt commit) who sat low 90s with an easy fastball that topped at 95 and an 83-mph slider to strikeout Will Banfield in the first inning. Braxton Ashcraft put together an impressive inning in the fifth against three tough hitters, with back-to-back strikeouts of Jeremiah Jackson and Elijah Cabell, throwing an assortment of pitches (fastball, curve, slider and a splitter).

Mississippi State University commit JT Ginn tossed two scoreless frames to send the game to extras, allowing one hit to Home Run Derby Champion Nolan Gorman and striking out one with a fastball that showed plus life and sat mid 90s, recording the highest FB velo of the game, touching 97 on the second pitch of the 8th inning (along with National pitcher Cole Wilcox in the 3rd inning).
