FACTORY SCOUTING REPORT New Orleans, LA B.A.T.S. Video Scouting Session & PUMA National Tournament Team Tryout

EVENT DATE: 4/10/2005

LOCATION: Maestri Field, University of New Orleans

The 45 players we saw showed some of the best talent we have seen so far in 2005. 10 players ran the 60 yard dash in under 7.0 seconds. Lee Haydel (Reserve, LA / Riverside Academy) posted the fastest time of 6.62 seconds. Two pitchers (Jordan Poirrier and Joshua Labiche) threw fastballs that reached 89 mph.

Top 5 Prospects

1. Chris Caswell, SS – Eunice, LA (St. Edmond HS, 2005 grad). He is a complete package – can run (6.90 60yds), field, throw (86 mph), hit, and hit for power. It is hard to find a glaring weakness in his game, while his physical build and defensive ability stand out as his strengths.

2. Tyler Slocum, SS – Greenwell Springs, LA (Redemptorist HS, 2006 grad). His lean, strong and athletic 5-11, 175 pound body is perfect at shortstop. He is a polished defensive infielder with a strong arm (86 mph), speed (6.90 60yds), and good right handed stroke.

3. Jordan Poirrier, RHP/2B – Reserve, LA (Riverside Academy, 2006 grad). Along with his 85-89 mph fastball, he threw a well above average curveball and an above average change-up. His command was almost as impressive as his stuff. The 5-10, 155 pounder also showed a solid left handed stroke, and has potential as a 2-way player.

4. Joshua Labiche, RHP/OF – Reserve, LA (Riverside Academy, 2005 grad). Has the rare combination of speed (6.75 60yds) and arm strength (91 mph), but is most interesting because of his upside on the mound. As his 6-2, 170 pound frame fills out, and his mechanics are cleaned up, he has a chance to add velocity and to improve his already good curveball and splitter.

5. Thomas Simnick, OF – Slidell, LA (Northshore HS, 2006 grad). He was able to generate above average power at the plate with his wiry, athletic body (6-1, 170). His aggressive stroke and quick wrists stood out the most. He also ran well (6.90 60yds), and showed an accurate outfield arm.
