Grandstrand Named Big South Player of the Week

Coastal Carolina University baseball player Brett Grandstrand (Newcastle, Wash./Liberty) was named the Choice Hotels Big South Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today (April 13). Grandstrand helped the Chants to a win over UNC Wilmington and a series win over VMI last week.
Grandstrand went 9-of-18 (.500) at the plate in five games last week with two home runs, seven runs-batted-in and six runs scored. The junior went deep in a 9-8 loss to the College of Charleston, April 6, and in an 8-5 win over VMI April 9. Grandstrand was 3-of-4 with four RBI in the loss to the Cougars and 2-for-4 with three runs scored in a 9-7 win over VMI April 10.
Grandstrand leads the Chants and is third in the Big South with a .385 batting average. He also is tied for the Big South lead with 14 doubles and has a .581 slugging percentage. Grandstrand is riding an 11-game hitting streak and has a hit in 28 of Coastal’s 32 games this year.
Coastal (21-11, 4-5 Big South) faces Radford University in a three-game Big South series April 16-18, in Radford, Va. Friday’s game begins at 3 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday’s contest starting at 1 p.m.
