Regan-Sachs says ‘no-no’ to Wheaton

The Bethesda-Chevy Chase baseball team received a no-hitter from sophomore pitcher Ben Regan-Sachs to propel the Barons (2-1) past Wheaton, 10-0, in five innings Monday.
He was one pitch away from a perfect game but a Wheaton batter reached safely after being hit by a pitch. Regan-Sachs recorded eight strikeouts, including three straight in the fourth inning on nine pitches.
Northwest opened the season with a 10-4 win over Watkins Mill (1-3) but it dropped back-to-back games to Quince Orchard (16-6 score) and Magruder (12-7 score) in games last week.
The Jaguars surrendered eight runs in the first inning in the Quince Orchard loss. They battled back to within 9-5 in the top of the third sparked by a two-run double by Seth Pearman (.364 BA, 4 RBI) but the squad could get no closer the rest of the way.
Northwest took a pair of leads against Magruder (2-2) but couldn’t hold either one in route to the five-run loss. Jensen Pupa (.500 BA, 4 RBI), West Fry (.583 BA, 6 RBI) and Danny Hansen (.286 BA) banged out two hits apiece.
“Wes is just crushing the ball,” Jaguars coach Matt Noble said. “Wes has worked so hard in the off-season. They’ve all been good, solid hits. Jensen’s hitting the ball well too. We have to decide who pitches after [ace] Jensen. That’s the key right now.”
Senior catcher/pitcher John Petch has done it all for Einstein (1-2). He finished the week with a team-best .429 batting average, including a home run, and he struck out 17 batters in the team’s lone win against Kennedy.
