Talented Outfielders on Display at Baseball Factory Team One Florida Event
The four teams that made up the Under Armour Baseball Factory Team One Baseball event in Florida June 14th and 15th were littered with talented players. Among all of the talent, outfield may have been the deepest position. There was an interesting mix of prospects bringing loud tools to the table.
Several of the top outfielders swung the bat with authority from the left side. LSU commit Daniel Cabrera (River Ridge, LA) took an impressive batting practice and made lots of loud game contact. He hit two triples that were both driven to the opposite field gap, and he got around the bases in a hurry.
Another Louisiana native, Jacob Pearson (West Monroe, LA), a Mississippi State commit, also tripled in game action. In addition, he had a sharply hit single and ran a 6.57 60 in the workout. Newly re-classified 2017 OF Christian Robinson (Melbourne, FL) again showed his ability to hit when it counts – in the games. The Florida Gator commit took an outside fastball and lined a double down the left field line in his first at-bat. The ball comes off his bat with authority and has outstanding carry.
A pair of switch-hitters showed well-rounded tools – Johnathan Rodriguez (Toa Baja, PR) swung the bat well from both sides of the plate in BP and showed a plus arm from the outfield, and Allbry Major from Indianapolis, IN has a very projectable frame, ran a 6.60, threw 92 mph raw velocity and singled twice in the second game. The future looks bright for the Xavier commit.
A few right-handed hitting outfielders also distinguished themselves. Heliot Ramos (Maunabo, PR) looks like he could play linebacker in the SEC, and he plays the game of baseball at a very high level. He ran a 6.57 in the 60 and went 4-for-5 in game play with two triples. He plays with high energy and has a complete set of tools. Another outfielder with a football build is Gabriel Rivera (Palmetto Bay, FL). Despite the thick, strong frame, he ran a 6.52 during the workout and recorded an exit velocity of 102 mph. The Miami commit also put on an impressive batting practice display. 2018 grad Christian Franklin (Overland Park, KS) also stood out with some loud tools, especially for an underclassman. He went 2-for-3 with a double and drew a walk in game play while running a 6.44 in the workout and showing some present power to the pull side. This young Arkansas commit is a player to watch closely over the next couple years.
These players and several others patrolled the outfield at high level during the event. The level of athleticism and the depth of the outfield position had our scouts talking, and was fun to watch.
