The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Tour rolls into Chalmette at Chalmette High School, home of the Owls, located in southeastern Louisiana, on Sunday, September 27th.

Both of today’s players highlighted are from Louisiana and play collegiately within the state for well-known baseball programs.

Carl Guidry

Carl Guidry – Guidry is from Denham Springs, Louisiana, nearly 100 miles away from Chalmette where Guidry first attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout back in May 2013. In July of the same year, Guidry was selected to participate in the Under Armour Team One South Showcase where he displayed explosive foot speed and defensively, a great approach to tracking down fly balls. Scouts noted that Carl “had a skill set that many college coaches are looking for and should continue to work hard and be detailed in his preparation.”

The 2014 graduate from Denham Springs High School put together a fine senior season that year, hitting .481 with 10 doubles, three triples, 21 RBI and 36 stolen bases, named the District 4A-5A MVP and an All-Metro MVP. Guidry moved onto Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana to play for the Lions, a team that finished the 2015 season with a 42-17 record overall.

Nick Thurman

Nick Thurman – Thurman was a four-year letter winner while at Belle Chasse High School in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, helping to lead his team to the championship game in 2010 and a district title in 2011. Thurman racked up the awards as a junior in ’11, garnering First-Team All-State, All-Metro and All-District honors and was a Team Hustle Award Winner.

After graduation in 2012 from Belle Chasse, Thurman moved on to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where, as a freshman in 2013, made 10 starts behind the plate as a catcher, hitting .275 with two doubles, a triple and 11 RBI. He was the backup catcher again as a sophomore in ’14, making 13 starts, scoring 10 runs and driving in 13.

The 6’2″, 210 pound junior put together a break-through season this year, starting 57 games, playing in 63 overall, hitting .257 with career highs in doubles (11), triples (2) and RBI (37). He hit his first collegiate home run this past season against Troy. He’ll look to lead the Ragin’ Cajuns as a senior in 2016.

Thurman attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in New Orleans back in May of 2010.
