Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Spotlight – Jacksonville, FL
The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Tour’s first stop in 2016 rolls into Florida State College in Jacksonville, FL on Sunday, January 10th.
The state of Florida, a hotbed of talent in the south, has the weather to keep local athletes in the area and the two players highlighted today both stayed within their state to play collegiate baseball after impressive workouts in Jacksonville.
Chris Gau – The 6’3″, 195 pound right-hander and infielder is a 2015 graduate from University Christian in Jacksonville where he played baseball under head coach, Les Rainey. In January of 2012 and 2013, Gau participated in an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Jacksonville, where he showed well on the mound with a repeatable delivery and at shortstop with great hands in ’13. He also participated in the Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory’s Team One Florida event that June and a year later, the Team One South showcase.
He improved his fastball velocity from the mid 80’s to the high 80’s by the time he participated in the Team One South event showing an elevated fastball that got up on hitters with great run. His breaking ball was also sharp during the event, showing good 11/5 break to it. A strike machine, Gau had a delivery that was repeatable with a quick and loose arm.
Gau stays local, as he’ll be a freshman in 2016 playing for the Jacksonville University Dolphins, a team that finished 26-30 (12-9 in conference play) last season.
Dalton Watley – Watley is a 2014 graduate from Brooks County High School in Valdosta, GA and was an All-Region selection in both baseball and football.
Dalton attended the Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Jacksonville in Jan of 2013 and then competed in the prestigious Cape Cod Select Training & Competition showcase in July of that year where scouts raved about his plus mental makeup and athletic qualities that any coach would want for his team. In January 2014, he was named a Pre-Season All-American and further impressed scouts with his ability to generate excellent bat speed and pop to all fields with his barrel accuracy. He also ran his best 60-yard time (7.59) during the event.
He committed to Georgia Southwestern University and spent his freshman season seeing action in six games, with four hits, two runs scored, one double and an RBI.
