The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Tour makes a stop in Lake Charles this Sunday, April 3rd to Barbe High School, for high school players, ages 14-18. Barbe High School has always been a great spot to find the best talent in Louisiana over the years, highlighted notably by Garin and Gavin Cecchini who were both Under Armour All-Americans and were drafted by Major League teams.

The players highlighted in this article are natives of Louisiana and both are playing collegiately for elite Division I schools and have attended numerous Under Armour Baseball Factory events while in high school.

Chris Reid

Chris Reid – Reid is a Baton Rouge native and attended St. Michael High School, graduating in 2015 where he was a three-time All-State selection and named All-Metro and All-District on four occasions. During his senior season, Reid hit .416 with nine doubles, two triples, two homers with a .615 on-base percentage. The catcher/infielder was also an outstanding placekicker and punter in high school with plans to punt for LSU’s football team according to the university’s website.

The local product first attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Chalmette, LA in May of 2013 and was a 2014 Under Armour Pre-Season All-American where the left-hander showed as a shortstop at the event and collected three hits in five trips to the plate that weekend.

This season, Reid has played in 13 games overall and in the middle of March, made six starts for the Tigers, going 5-for-17 (.294) with four RBIs, four runs, three walks and his first collegiate home run – an inside-the-park variety – the program’s first such homer since March 28, 2015.

Dylon Poncho

Dylon Poncho – Poncho is from Elton, LA and is a 2015 graduate from Kinder High School where he was a four-year letter winner under coach Kenny Kourville, helping to guide the Yellow Jackets to state championships in 2014 and 2015. During his senior season, Dylon was the the LBCA Class 2A Player of the Year and garnered All-State selections from 2013-15 and All-District from 2012-15.

Now in his freshman season with Louisiana-Lafayette, Poncho is batting .281 with two doubles and four RBI in nine starts (14 games overall), seeing time mostly as the team’s designated hitter for the Ragin’ Cajuns, off to a 16-9 start and 11-2 at home.

Poncho also attended the National Tryout event in Chalmette one year before Reid in May of 2012 and participated in the Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City in August of 2012. In 2013, Poncho showed as a versatile dual-position player at shortstop and on the mound during the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament in his sophomore year of high school.
