Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Spotlight – Madison, NJ

The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Tour makes a stop in Madison, NJ to Drew University on Sunday, December 13th.

Drew University is located in Madison and is a Division III school playing in the Landmark Conference at Doc Young Field. The team won a conference title and also made an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012.

Both of the players featured hail from New Jersey and stayed locally in the region, furthering their baseball skills at college after successful high school careers in The Garden State.

Doug deMarrais

Doug deMarrais

Doug deMarrais – deMarrais, from Bernardsville, NJ, is a 2014 graduate of Bernards High School where he was a four-year Varsity starter at Bernards and is tops in doubles, home runs and RBI’s in school history.

In his senior season, he was named Somerset County and Courier News Player of the Year, also earning third-team All-State honors and played in the prestigious New Jersey All-Star Game for the top high school players in the state.

deMarrais first participated in an Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP event in Trenton, NJ in October 2011 and then later in April 2013 in Plymouth Meeting, PA where he improved his pop times behind the plate to a range of 2.19-to-2.25. His baseball improvements continued straight through the Under Armour Team One North showcase in July 2013, where Doug showed solid defensive skills, taking excellent angles to block behind the dish and a quick-release arm with good results to second base.

After graduation, deMarrais was off to Rutgers University where the 6’4″, 225 pound catcher appeared in 10 games last season, making his collegiate debut with a pinch-hitting appearance against Miami. He made one start at catcher against Michigan State where he drew a walk and scored a run. In a start against Columbia, Doug recorded his first collegiate hit and scored a run. The lineage is strong at Rutgers; his father, Doug, played on the undefeated 1976 Rutgers football team.

Kevin Magee

Kevin Magee

Kevin Magee – Magee is a 2014 graduate from Pompton Lakes High School in Pompton Lakes, NJ and was a four-year letterwinner for the Cardinals baseball program, serving as team captain as a senior and helping to lead his squad to back-to-back Passaic County championships in 2013-’14 and back-to-back North 1, Group 1 State Sectional titles in ’12 and ’13.

Magee first appeared at an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Hightstown, NJ in December 2011. His skill set as a left-handed pitcher gave him the opportunity to attend the 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament, where he delivered a three-pitch set with his change-up being his best off-speed pitch. Six months later, Magee participated in the Team One Northeast Showcase, continuing to highlight his abilities on the mound with a nice, quality repertoire of pitches. The lefty then made it back-to-back appearances as a Pre-Season All-American in 2013, showing excellent tempo on the mound and the ability to pitch to contact.

Heading into 2016, he’ll be a junior at St. John’s University in New York where he has pitched the last couple seasons for the Red Storm. Magee appeared in 13 games last season as a sophomore, making six starts, going 2-3 and striking out 16 batters in 25 2/3 innings pitched.
