Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Spotlight – Scranton, Pennsylvania

The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Tour makes a stop in Scranton, Pennsylvania at Connell Park on Sunday, September 27th. Connell Park is a baseball/softball facility and home to the University of Scranton and Scranton Prep baseball and softball teams. The facilities include three baseball fields and the complex also consists of indoor and outdoor batting cages to provide for year round practice areas.

Today’s highlighted athletes all hail from Pennsylvania and have been intergral parts of their collegiate teams.

Liam Sabino

Liam Sabino

Liam Sabino – Sabino lettered all four years in baseball while at Blair Academy in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, serving as the team captain in 2013 and his senior season of 2014. He was a major part of the dominance while at Blair Academy as the team reeled off three consecutive Prep A State titles in 2012, ’13 and ’14.

Sabino first attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Trenton, NJ back in October 2011 and his skill set took him to Arizona for the 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament where Sabino showed off his skills at short stop and a bat that would eventually translate to the next level at Vanderbilt University.

As a freshman this season, Sabino was nearly part of a repeat for the Commodores as National Champions, but dropped the title game, 4-2 to University of Virginia for the 2015 National Championship. Sabino made the 2015 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll and singled in his only at-bat of the NCAA Regional Championship against Radford. He saw action in 17 games this season, making three starts at short stop, hitting .240 with two doubles and three RBI.

Patrick Donnelly

Patrick Donnelly

Patrick Donnelly – Donnelly, a 2013 graduate from Bethlehem Liberty High School, was a dual-sport star earning four varsity letters in baseball and basketball. He was a 2012 and 2013 first team All-Area honoree by the Morning Call and Express Times, and named a first team All-Conference shortstop. He also garnered first team All-State recognition each of his final two seasons.

In October 2010, Donnelly attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP event (previously the Premium Video Program) in Scranton, PA and after graduation, picked Lehigh University as his next step playing collegiate baseball. He made an immediate impact with the Mountain Hawks in 2014, hitting .269 with 13 RBI and 18 runs scored in 42 games, making 40 starts at third base.

An even better sophomore season in 2015 followed, named to the First Team All-Patriot League, starting 50 games at third and leading the team with 14 RBI in Patriot-League play. Donnelly hit .267 this season with 12 doubles, six homers and 32 RBI.

Ryan Bonshak

Ryan Bonshak

Ryan Bonshak – Bonshak is a 2014 graduate from Whitehall High School in Whitehall, PA and was a three-sport athlete in high school. Bonshak was a two-time captain for both the baseball and football teams and was twice named the Lehigh Valley Conference’s honorable mention catcher. As a senior, he batted .400 on the diamond and was named a first team All-State defensive back on the gridiron.

During his Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP tryout in Plymouth Meeting, PA in April 2013, scouts were impressed with Bonshak’s foot speed, running a 7.18 60-yard time. Behind the plate, the catcher posted pop times between 2.19 and 2.28 with solid accuracy and carry on his throws. He was rated high with his ability to receive pitches and block balls in the dirt, all high praise for the next level. Three months later at the Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory’s Team One North event, he showed well both offensively and defensively as scouts noted his balanced swing and solid approach at the plate.

Bonshak is teammates with Donnelly at Lehigh and the freshman saw action in 10 games this season, making three starts behind the plate, recording his first collegiate hit against Columbia on May 23rd.
