The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Tour makes a stop in Swarthmore, PA to Swarthmore College on Sunday, December 27th, our final National Tryout event for 2015. Founded in 1864, Swarthmore College is located in Swarthmore, PA, a town 11 miles southwest of Philadelphia.

Today’s highlighted players either have connections to the Philadelphia area or elsewhere in Pennsylvania and all have stayed within the state to play collegiately. Two players are current teammates on the Penn State Nittany Lions baseball program and both attended the same Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout as high school athletes.

Tommy Gambon

Tommy Gambon – The Bethesda, MD native graduated from Georgetown Prep in 2013 and was a three-time letterwinner, helping the team win back-to-back Interstate Athletic Conference titles in 2012 and 2013. He was named an All-IAC as a senior in ’13 as well.

Gambon attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP event in Bowie, MD in March 2012 and was a 2012 Team One South showcase participant where scouts noted that his arm strength improved greatly as he threw a top velocity of 87 mph. His command and control were pluses during the event as he threw all of his pitches for strikes.

In 2016, Gambon will enter his junior season with the Bisons, looking to build on a sophomore campaign where he pitched 4 2/3 innings over six appearances, winning two games and striking out five batters.

Jim Haley – Haley is a 2013 graduate from Bonner and Prendergast Catholic High School in Upper Darby, PA, lettering three times under head coach, Joe DeBarbarie. During his senior season, Haley was named the 2013 Philadelphia Catholic League MVP after hitting .459 with two homers, 26 RBI and 27 runs.

In April 2012, Haley attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Saint Davids, PA and decided to stay local to play for the Penn State Nittany Lions Baseball program. As a sophomore this past season, Haley started 46 games (47 games overall) and batted .301 with 11 doubles, four triples, 25 RBI and swiped 11 bases in 14 attempts.

Tom Mullin – Mullin is a 6’4″, 205 pound right-hander from St. Joseph’s Prep in Springfield, PA where he lettered two years under head coach Joe Falcone and graduated in 2013. He put together an amazing senior season, posting a 1.85 ERA and striking out 83 batters on the way to being named the 2013 All-Philadelphia Catholic League MVP and a first-team All-Philly Catholic League Pitcher.

Both Mullin and Haley have taken similar routes in becoming teammates, first Mullin attended the same National Tryout event as Haley did in Saint Davids and now both are teammates with Penn State’s program.

As a freshman in ’14, Mullin pitched six-straight relief appearances without allowing a run from early March to mid-April and last season, as a sophomore, he went 4-0 with a 4.26 ERA (15 appearances, three starts) striking out 19 batters in 31 2/3 innings pitched.
