2015 Under Armour All-America Game Recap: Innings 1-3

The 2015 Under Armour All-America Game is underway here in Wrigley Field and the American squad got out to a 1-0 lead after Carter Kieboom singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 1st.

Both Riley Pint and American Team starter, Alex Speas reached 96 mph on their fastballs in the first inning. Speas got out of an early jam, by inducing Bo Bichette into a 1-6-3 double play to end the bottom of the 1st.

American Team catcher Cooper Johnson showed a cannon of an arm behind the plate with his throw to second base in the first inning. The junior from Carmel Catholic HS in Mundelein, Illinois flashed a 1.81 pop time. The 6’0″ 200 pound catcher recorded a walk and an RBI single in the first three innings of play. In the bottom of the third, Johnson picked off Trammel leading too far off the bag at second.

In the bottom of the second, right-hander Forrest Whitley put together a nice 1-2-3 inning, striking out two batters and reaching 96 MPH with his fastball. Whitley is from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, TX.

A.J. Brown, just the second Under Armour All-American to play in both the football and baseball showcases, recorded the National team’s first hit of the day. He was on base for Canadian catching prospect, Andy Yerzy (York Mills Collegiate Institute in Toronto) who went opposite field with a home run to left field to give the National team a 2-1 advantage. He also recorded a 1.85 pop time.

National Team second baseman Austin James made the nicest play of the first three innings, recording an out via a barehanded play to retire Grae Kessinger in the second inning.

Kieboom recorded two hits and a stolen base in his first two innings. Joey Wentz for the American Team chipped in with an RBI single in the top of the 3rd. Mitchell Miller from Loganville HS in Convington, Georgia tossed a scoreless third inning of work for the American squad.

After three innings: American Team lead the National Team, 4-2.
