2017 Outfielders Have Strong Showing at Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament
There were many talented outfielders from the 2017 class at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season, led by Top 10 selections Allbry Major and Jose Yadiel Martinez. In addition to those two, there were several athletes who were intriguing prospects out in Arizona.
A few quick twitch players to catch the attention of scouts were Brandon Moore, an explosive outfielder, committed to Alabama A&M, with a 6.8-60 and a 9’9” broad jump. He was also on base in 4 of his 6 at bats in game play.
A similar prospect is LSU-Eunice commit, Elijah Mundy who also jumped 9’9”, ran a 6.94 in the 60 and has some exciting raw power that will continue to develop.
With game changing speed, Jaisen Randolph ran a 6.59 in the 60 and went on to steal four bases during the games. He can also close well on balls in CF.
Another intriguing mix of tools is found in David Ortega. Hailing from Hobbs, NM Ortega has a loose, easy swing from both sides of the plate, is a solid defender and ran a 6.84.
Also showing promise at the plate was Jimmie Robinson III. He has very quick, strong hands with a line drive stroke and is aggressive both at the plate and in the field.
Finally, two-way performer Tyler Chase Wilkerson was on base 4 out of 7 times in the games and touched 85 mph as an effective LHP.
