Hailing from the neighboring state of Indiana, Avery Short should have quite a few fans that make the trip to Chicago to watch him pitch at Wrigley Field. In addition to fans, Avery will also bring his quality stuff and history of success with him to the Under Armour All-America Game.
The solidly-built LHP has been dominant for much of the spring and summer, including an excellent performance at USA Baseball’s Tournament of Stars. He earned All-State honors this spring after leading his conference in strikeouts for the third straight season. Many of those strikeouts came via his curveball which has excellent depth and bite. He challenges hitters with a low 90s fastball that he commands well and throws to both sides of the plate. Rounding out his arsenal is a quality change-up that he throws effectively, especially against right-handed hitters.
With a durable frame, an easy arm swing and three promising pitches, Avery has the look of a left-handed starting pitching prospect – the kind of profile that plays the game for a long time.
