Baseball Factory Alumni Impact #9

Follow along with us this season as we keep up with current and former Baseball Factory players who are making an impact on their team’s success. We will keep you up-to-date on the latest standout performances at the major league, collegiate and high school levels. This week, we focus on players making an impact in the minor leagues, college and high school levels.

Minor Leagues

JoshBellJosh Bell – (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout, 2009 Team One Futures) Bell was the Pittsburgh Pirates second round selection in the 2011 Draft out of Dallas Jesuit in Dallas, TX.

Bell spent the last part of the 2014 season, after a promotion, playing for Double-A Altoona, hitting .287 in 24 games. This season, he’s the primary first baseman for the Altoona Curve and the move has not affected his bat (.360 average, three doubles, four triples, a home run and 15 RBI in 22 games). He’s been equally patient at the plate, drawing 11 walks to just seven strikeouts in 85 at-bats.

 

PeterOBrienPeter O’Brien – (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout & Premium Video Program, 2007 Under Armour All-American, 2007 Team One South) O’Brien finds himself near the top of every major offensive category through the first month of the season in the Pacific Coast League for Triple-A Reno, the minor league affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks; third in batting average (.358), tied for second in home runs (7), and tied for third in RBI (23) and second in slugging percentage (.684).

 

College

DJ Stewart – (2011 Team One South) The junior at Florida State University from Yulee, FL was an All-ACC First Team member last season, leading the ACC in batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage, and he leads the Seminoles again in 2015.

Stewart paces FSU in batting average (.333), home runs (12), RBI (45), total bases (98) and slugging percentage (.616) for the Seminoles who are 36-14 overall and second in the Atlantic Division of the ACC. Stewart is hitting .338 with six extra-base hits in conference play this season.

ZackCollinsZack Collins – (2010, 2011 Team One Futures East, 2012 Under Armour All-American) The sophomore from Pembroke Pines, FL was named a Pre-Season All-American by Baseball America and part of the Golden Spikes Watch List for the University of Miami for the 2015 season.

Zack is hitting .275 with six doubles, four triples, nine homers and 36 RBI and is second with a .515 slugging percentage behind teammate, and former Baseball Factory alumnus, David Thompson (.602).

The Hurricanes are 34-13 overall and lead the Coastal Division in the ACC with a 19-8 mark.

 

 

Under Armour All-American GameRyan Kellogg – (2011 Under Armour All-American) The Canadian-born Kellogg is from the Whitby, Ontario, Canada and the junior at Arizona State University has put together a nice season, winning seven games as a starter for the Sun Devils.

He’s collected a complete game victory and a 3.76 ERA in 83 2/3 innings this season. His career has been a decorated one, as he’s been named a two-time First-Team All-Pac-12 selection and sports a 19-4 record and 14-1 in conference play in his career.

 

High School

HunterStovallHunter Stovall – (2014 Under Armour Pre-Season All-American, 2014 Team One South) Stovall, a senior at Pelham High School in Pelham, AL has committed to Mississippi State and is having a fine 2015 season, hitting .461, 38 runs scored, eight home runs and 50 RBI. He’s also hit 17 doubles and stolen 20 bases.

 

 

 

JulianInfanteJulian Infante – (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout, 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-American, 2012 Team One Florida, 2013 Under Armour Futures Series East, 2014 Team One Florida)

Infante has been heavily involved in Baseball Factory events and is enjoying a fine senior season for Westminster Christian in Coral Gables, FL, batting .474 with eight doubles, 12 home runs and 33 runs driven in. Infante has great size for his age (6’2 – 205) and has committed to Vanderbilt University.

 

GraeKessingerGrae Kessinger – (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) Kessinger was recently featured in our Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout recap, was a standout performer at his tryout in Germantown, TN in late April. Kessinger – the grandson of former Chicago Cubs player Don Kessinger – has committed to Ole Miss and showed a nice stroke at the plate and smooth defense during his tryout.

Grae was a big contributor in his high school team’s most recent win, going 3-for-4 with a double, home run and five RBI in a 7-1 victory that made Oxford High School 29-0 on the season.
