Baseball Factory Alumni Notebook (Week of 3/26/18)

Each week in the Alumni Notebook, we look back at notable performances from around the game of baseball, across high school, collegiate and professional ranks. Steve Bernhardt, Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations for the Factory provides information on the Factory alumni.

MLB

Jose Berrios

Matt Davidson, White Sox – Davidson homered three times on Opening Day. The 27-year old is hitting .364 with a team-leading six RBI to start the season. Davidson participated in an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Irvine, CA and the Team One West Showcase in 2007.

Brandon Drury, Yankees – Drury is proving to be a great piece for an exciting, young Yankees lineup as the third baseman is hitting.385 with a double, a homer and four RBI to start the season. Brandon is a two-time Under Armour Pre-Season All-American in 2009 and ’10. The Grants Pass, Oregon native also attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout and PREP event in Monmouth, OR in November 2008.

Jose Berrios, Twins – Threw a complete-game shutout in his first start of the season against Baltimore going 9 IP, giving up three hits and striking out six in the Twins 7-0 victory. Berrios was a 2011 Under Armour All-American.

Lance McCullers, Jr, Astros – Won his 1st start of the season pitching 5 1/3 innings and striking out 10 in the Astros’ 9-3 victory over the Texas Rangers. Lance played in the 2010 Under Armour All-America Game.

Jameson Taillon, Pirates – Taillon’s pitching performance helped the Pirates win their home opener, as the starter went 5 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and striking out nine in the 5-4 victory over Minnesota as the Pirates start the season 4-0.

College

Seth Beer, Clemson – ACC Player of the Week, led Clemson to a 4-0 week going 8 for 13 with four HRs and 12 RBIs, hitting a HR in each game of the week. Beer has a team-leading 10 homers, second on the team with 24 RBI, while also adding 25 walks. Beer is a two-time Under Armour All-American (2014 & 2015).

Jon Littell

Xzavion Curry, Georgia Tech – ACC Pitcher of the Week, got the win over Miami pitching eight innings, allowing just one run while striking out 12. He is now 6-0 on the season. Curry participated in the 2014 Under Armour Baseball Factory Futures South Showcase.

Jonathan India, Florida – SEC Player of the Week, India continues his hot streak as documented in last week’s Notebook. Last week, he went 6-for-13 with two homers, five runs scored, four RBI and three stolen bases. He currently has a 15 game hitting streak. India attended the 2012 Baseball Factory Team One Futures East Showcase and Baseball Factory’s Team One Florida Showcase in 2014.

Jon Littell, Oklahoma State – Big 12 Player of the Week, OSU went 4-0 on the week led by Littell’s offensive outburst. He hit .600 with three doubles, two triples and four RBI. He scored nine runs in the three-game sweep of TCU over the weekend. Jon attended the 2012 Team One Futures East Showcase.

Colton Eastman, Cal State Fullerton – Big West Pitcher of the Week, Pitched a no-hitter against UC Santa Barbara, pitched nine innings striking out seven while tossing the 5th no-hitter in school history. Colton attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Fresno, CA back in 2010.

High School

Gunnar Hoglund

Gunnar Hoglund, Fivay HS – Gunnar continues to dominate both as a pitcher and position player. He has now thrown three no-hitters on the season and is yet to allow an earned run in 34 IP while striking out 76 hitters. He’s 6-0 on the mound and contributing with the bat as well, hitting .424 with four HRs and 18 RBIs.

Bobby Witt, Jr, Colleyville Heritage – He’s helped Heritage to a 17-3 overall record, and they’ve won their last 13 games. During those 13 games, Witt has gone 18-for-32 with five 2B, a triple, four HR, 18 RBI at the plate while making four appearances as a pitcher. On the mound during that stretch, he is 1-0 with a save throwing four innings without allowing a hit or run and striking out nine. Witt will be a two-time Under Armour All-American when he plays in this year’s game at Wrigley Field. Witt has also participated in Baseball Factory’s National Florida, Futures Texas and this year’s Under Armour Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Tournament.

Luke Spillane, Mission Viejo – Threw a perfect game in the National Classic, defeating Bingham (UT) High. Went seven innings, striking out 13 in the 1-0 victory. Spillane has attended numerous showcase and tournament events with the Baseball Factory, including the UA Southwest Championships, UA SoCal Classic and the Ryan Lemmon Sophomore Showcase.

Hunter Barco, Bolles – Hunter helped to lead Bolles to the title at the IMG National Classic. He homered in the win over Georgetown Prep and then got the win on the mound over previously undefeated IMG Academy. Hunter went six IP and struck out eight in the victory. Hunter attended a UA BF National Tryout in Tallahassee, FL last August and Baseball Factory’s Futures East Showcase in September, 2017.

Blaze Alexander, IMG – Blaze stayed hot through the IMG National Classic. He seemed to hit the ball hard in every at bat going 6-for-13 in the books with a triple, home run and five runs driven in for the week. Blaze was a standout performer at last year’s Under Armour All-America Game.
