31 players from eight different states named to roster.  Five more players will be announced in the coming weeks.

Columbia, MD, June 28, 2005 – Baseball Factory and Team One announce that thirty-one top prospects from eight different states have been selected to play in the inaugural Cape Cod High School Classic on July 29, 2005 in Wareham, Massachusetts. Five more players will be announced to the squad in the coming weeks. 

The High School Classic will showcase the most talented high school rising seniors and juniors from across the nation and around the world.  The Cape Cod Baseball League will serve as official host for the game, providing a historic setting for this event.

The Cape Cod High School Classic will precede the Cape Cod League’s annual All-Star Game which will take place on July 30 in Hyannis, MA.  By hosting the High School Classic at the Cape Cod League, scouts will be able to watch the best high school players followed by the best college players on consecutive days.  All High School Classic players will be honored during the opening ceremonies at the Cape All-Star Game.

The Cape Cod High School Classic teams were selected by scouts from Baseball Factory and Team One.  The thirty-six players will form two teams that will face off in front of numerous scouting directors and influential decision makers within Major League Baseball. 

Two players named to the team, RHP/3B Cory Rasmus (class of 2006) and LHP/OF Kasey Kiker (class of 2006) led their Russell County (AL) High School team to a state and national championship this spring.  Kiker went 12-1 with a 0.52 ERA and struck out 173 batters in 94 innings.  Rasmus went 11-0 with a 0.50 ERA.  The twosome helped Russell County to a 38-1 record.  Rasmus’ older brother Colby was a senior this spring and was a first-round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals.  Kiker is considered by many to be the nation’s top left-handed pitching prospect for 2006 throwing a 92-95 MPH fastball.  Rasmus is a power pitcher who also throws in the low-90’s.

South Florida has long been known for producing many talented infielders including Alex Rodriguez. The two best infielders from the Miami area will both play at the Cape Cod High School Classic. Third baseman Christian Marrero (Pace HS, 2006) and shortstop Ryan Jackson (Gulliver Prep, 2006) are both considered potential first-round draft picks. Marrero was a star on the USA Youth National team last summer and is one of the top hitters in the nation. Jackson is perhaps the top defensive shortstop nationwide in the Class of 2006.

Among the eight California prospects coming to the Cape Cod High School Classic are 1B/LHP Chris Parmelee (Chino Hills HS), OF Jeff Rapoport (Westlake HS) and right fielder Devin Shephard (Oxnard Union HS). Parmelee is a talented two-way player who has already verbally committed to 2004 College World Series champion Cal State Fullerton. Rapoport is one of the fastest baseball players in the United States. His older brother, Jim, is an outfielder at Stanford. Shephard is a prototypical Major League right fielder with one of the strongest outfielder arms in the country.

Six players from Texas have been chosen to play in the Cape Cod High School Classic including left-handed pitcher Aaron Miller (Channelview HS) and right-handed pitcher Ryan Jenkins (Cy Falls HS).  Miller and Jenkins are considered two of the top three pitchers in the state of Texas and both potential first-round draft picks. Right fielder Jonathan Edwards (Grace Prep) is 6-5 and 235 pounds. He has thrown 95 MPH off the mound and run the 60-yard dash in 6.7 seconds.
