Buxton, a 2011 Under Armour All-American, was rated the No. 1 prospect coming into the 2015 season by MLB.com and has been impressive during his time with Double-A Chattanooga this season after battling injuries in 2014. In 59 games this season for the Lookouts, Buxton hit .283 with seven doubles, 12 triples (most in the minor leagues) to go along with six homers and 37 RBI. He’s stolen 20 bases and scored 44 runs.
He’s also getting it done with the glove as well, committing just two errors in 192 chances this season.
The move was necessitated after centerfielder Aaron Hicks was bothered by a sore elbow and Torii Hunter serving a two-game suspension. No better time than now for the former All-American to showcase his premier talent in the majors.
Buxton is a five-tool outfielder who excelled in his 2011 All-America appearance, showing some of the best arm strength of the day to go along with premier hitting ability.
We congratulate Byron and wish him well as he begins to live out his dream of being a major leaguer!
