Five Baseball Factory Alumni Take Home Silver Slugger Awards
Five Baseball Factory alumni have been recognized as the best hitters in the game this year, awarded Silver Sluggers for their offensive performance. The Silver Slugger is given yearly to the best hitter at each respective position in both leagues.
Brian McCann, who attended a Baseball Factory Team One event in 2001, won his sixth Silver Slugger, his first since 2011. McCann, in his second year as the catcher for the New York Yankees, hit .236 and led major league catchers with 26 home runs.
Nolan Arenado continued his domination of the award circuit, adding a Silver Slugger to his Gold Glove and Wilson Defensive Player of the Year honors at third base. The 2009 Under Armour Team One West participant and current Colorado Rockie led all third basemen by walloping 42 home runs while hitting .287 on the year.
Brandon Crawford was rewarded for his impressive season, earning the Silver Slugger to pair with his Gold Glove. Crawford, a 2005 Baseball Factory Team One participant, hit .256 on the year. The San Francisco Giants’ shortstop finished with 21 home runs while compiling a 5.6 wins above replacement, which lead all shortstops.
Josh Donaldson, an attendee of the Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout, is the frontrunner for AL MVP and was rewarded with his first Silver Slugger Award. The third basemen for the Toronto Blue Jays hit a robust .297 with 41 home runs.
Bryce Harper, who also attended the Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout as a prospect, earned his first Silver Slugger. The Washington Nationals right fielder posted absurd numbers, hitting .330 with 42 home runs and playing outstanding defense, making him a shoo in candidate for the NL MVP.
Congratulations to all the Baseball Factory Alumni who received awards, as their hard work has clearly paid off, and good luck to both Donaldson and Harper in their upcoming MVP voting.
