In Their Own Words: A Conversation with Baseball Factory Alumnus Mike Nikorak

With the 2015 MLB Draft fast approaching, many of Baseball Factory’s players are one step closer to accomplishing their dream of making it to the big leagues.

Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania native Mike Nikorak has lit the radar gun up with a fastball, clocked as high as 97 mph and is likely to be selected near the top in this year’s MLB Draft. The 2014 Under Armour All-American recently shared his insights in a conversation with Baseball Factory as he prepares for one of the biggest days in his life.

Baseball Factory: If you were in the majors right now, which hitter would you most want to strike out with your fastball?

Mike Nikorak: Miguel Cabrera. Everyone knows the class of power hitter he is. If I want to earn some respect right away, I gotta go after the guy with the highest ranking.

BF: Do you have any family who played sports in college or professionally?

MN: My brother Steve was drafted by the Chicago White Sox (Drafted in 32nd round of 2012 Draft and played for the White Sox’s Rookie League Teams at Bristol and Great Falls before playing in Independent League this season with the St. Paul Saints) after playing for Temple University and played two years professionally in their organization.

BF: Favorite pre-game meal to eat?

MN: For me, it would have to be pork chops, rice and broccoli.

BF: If you were in the majors right now, what would be your walk-up song?

MN: ACDC’s “Thunderstruck”

BF: Who do you most model your game after?

MN: Justin Verlander – I like the fact that he battles and competes on the hill every time, regardless of score and the situation he’s in.

BF: Looking back, describe the experience you had with Baseball Factory?

MN: It was one of the best experiences I’ve had personally in my life and I wouldn’t trade it for the world being able to play baseball.

BF: What is it like to be a teenager traveling around the country playing baseball?

MN: It’s a great experience and I’ve learned so much. It’s what I’ve always wanted to do with my life, so it has been nice getting started as early as possible with traveling and playing different places.

BF: Favorite autograph or piece of memorabilia that you own?

MN: I have a signed jersey from Roger Clemens and a signed picture from Cecil Fielder.

BF: Tell us one thing that most people wouldn’t know about you?

MN: I’ve had straight A’s since my freshman year of high school.

BF: If you didn’t play baseball, what would your career path be?

MN: I want to own my own business one day. I would like to open up a baseball warehouse where I can help teach young kids how to play the game right and also for the older kids to help them improve their game in anyway I can.
