Day 7
At the conclusion of play today, Team Royal excelled on the field picking up 2 key victories and advancing to their bracket semifinal. Team Royal is featured in the Factory Blog Spotlight below.
Factory Blog Spotlight
Team Royal is coached by Baseball Factory veteran Bill Leiby and assisted by Derek Wohlers. Coach Leiby has worked many Baseball Factory and Team One events and brings tremendous energy to our program. He is the kind of coach kids love to play for. Leiby is the current head coach at Riverview High School in Tampa, Florida that has produced many top draft picks and college players. He is the former head coach at East Bay High School and the former assistant at Francis Howell High School. Coach Leiby played his college baseball at Lindenwood University. Coach Wohlers is currently an assistant coach at NAIA powerhouse Azusa Pacific. He also serves as the speed and strength coach to the team. Wohlers spent two seasons as a 2-way player at Azusa Pacific after spending his first two collegiate seasons at Spokane Falls Community College.
Team Royal caught fire at the right time and have been led throughout the tournament by the following key players.
LHP – Anthony Delasantos – Salinas, CA
SS – Julian Duran – Walnut, CA
3B – Cutter McCue – Katy, TX

Life Skills…
Tonight parents and players had the opportunity to listen to one of the best motivational speakers that I have ever heard. Rick Sofield, former 1st Round pick of the Minnesota Twins and Major League veteran of 3 seasons, was on hand to share his knowledge, experience, and philosophies with our group. Rick has also served as the field coordinator for the NY Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Montreal Expos. He is the former AAA manager of the Colorado Rockies and LA Dodgers. Rick coached collegiately at the University of Utah and South Carolina University. As impressive as Rick’s background is in the game of baseball, what is equally impressive is his outlook on life and how to behave off the field. His message is clear, enthusiastic, and poignant — he preaches doing things the right way and the respectful way as it relates to how you handle yourself, your teammates, your parents, your academics, and your peers. It is always a powerful experience for those that have the chance to hear him speak. Coach Sofield and Baseball Factory have combined to create a special Life Skills program that is now available for families. Sofield’s message and concepts are delivered through the program on an ongoing basis.
The Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament comes to a close tomorrow. I would like to thank everyone that coached and participated in the event. It has been a very memorable experience for everyone!
