Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Spotlight – Bellevue, Washington

The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Tour rolls into Bellevue, a city in King County, Washington, across Lake Washington from Seattle, taking place at Newport High School on Sunday, September 27th.

Today, we look back at three players highlighted, all of whom have had successful starts to their college careers, including one player who put together one of the finest freshman seasons in Wake Forest University’s baseball history.

Stuart Fairchild

Stuart Fairchild

Stuart Fairchild – Fairchild, from Seattle, Washington, is a 2014 graduate from Seattle Preparatory School where the outfielder was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 38th round of the 2014 MLB Draft and was an All-State selection by the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association in 2013 and ’14.

Opting to stick to college, Fairchild put together one of the most successful freshman seasons in Wake Forest baseball history, finishing 2015 with a .349 average, five home runs, 41 RBI and 31 runs scored in 52 games. Among Wake Forest freshman all-time, he ranks tied for fourth most in hits (68) and stolen bases (12), ninth in doubles (14) and tenth in batting average. The 5’11”, 190 pound outfielder was named to the NCBWA Freshman All-America First Team, and was also named to the First Team All-ACC and All-ACC Freshman team as well.

Fairchild attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP event (previously the Premium Video Program) in Bellevue back in June of 2012.

Daniel Fredrickson

Daniel Fredrickson

Daniel Fredrickson – Fredrickson is a 2014 graduate from Bothell High School in Woodinville, Washington where the outfielder was a three-year letterman in baseball and tennis. During his senior season, he was named to the First Team All-King County 4A, hitting .441 with 13 RBI.

He participated in an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Bellevue back in June 2012 and then, seven months later, was named to the 2013 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament, standing out as an athletic outfielder that had outstanding foot speed and the ability to track the ball well in the outfield.

After graduation, Fredrickson started his collegiate career with the Washington State University Cougars, finishing his freshman season with a .281 average, good for second-best on the team, scoring five runs with a triple, double and three RBI, appearing in 25 games and making five starts in 2015.

This summer, for the Okotoks Dawgs (Canadian-based summer league) in Okotoks, Alberta, Canada, Frederickson finished fifth in average (.365) and was named a Western Major League Baseball All-Star, knocking in 20 runs and stealing 10 bases for the team.

Mark Sluys

Mark Sluys

Mark Sluys – A 2014 graduate from Gig Harbor High School in Gig Harbor, Washington, Sluys was a letter-winner as a catcher and was a two-time team captain as a junior and senior for the Tides. Named the team’s MVP as a senior, was a First Team All-Narrows League selection and a Washington State All-State baseball nomination.

Sluys participated in a College PREP event in Sauget, Illinois in July 2013 and currently plays for Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. As a freshman, the catcher/infielder played in nine games, starting five as the team’s backup catcher. He finished the season with six hits in 21 at-bats, scoring three runs and driving in four.
