Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Spotlight – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Tour rolls into Oklahoma City at Oklahoma City University, home of the Stars, on Sunday, September 13th.

The Oklahoma City Stars play in the Sooner Athletic Conference of the NAIA, finishing the 2015 season with a record of 46-13.

Today, we take a closer look at three former Baseball Factory players, two of which have been drafted by major league teams. All took part in an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in the state of Oklahoma.

Caleb Eldridge

Caleb Eldridge

Caleb Eldridge – Eldridge is a 2014 graduate from Deer Creek High School in Edmond, Oklahoma. He finished his senior season with the Antlers being named an All-State performer after hitting .420 with 17 doubles, 11 home runs, 50 RBI and slugging .857 in 37 games.

His Baseball Factory experience began at an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Edmond back in September 2011. His talent led him to Arizona for the Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic in October of that year and impressed all with his footwork ability around the bag at first, his ability to stretch out and get throws and get rid of the baseball quickly. With the bat, the ball exploded off his bat to all fields and scouts remarked that he will hit and hit with power at the next level.

Eldridge showed a similar skill-set three months later at the 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament where he projected best as a power-hitting first baseman. He showed plus barrel accuracy as the ball continued jumping off of his bat at this event.

It was clear his talent would translate to the next level and that’s what Oklahoma State University banked on as Eldridge committed and finished his freshman season in 2015. Although he only finished with one hit in six at-bats in ’15, his one hit was his first collegiate home run, March 10 against Alcorn State. Eldridge also drew four walks this season.

He is the fourth member of his family to attend Oklahoma State University; his mom, uncle and cousin all previously attended.

Gavin LaValley

Gavin LaValley

Gavin LaValley – LaValley hails from Choctaw, Oklahoma and attended Carl Albert High School where he graduated in 2014. Gavin attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP event (previously the Premium Video Program) in Oklahoma City back in September of 2013.

The 6’3″, 235 pound third baseman was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the fourth round of the 2014 MLB Draft, and the 20-year-old is currently hitting .267 with 27 doubles, four home runs and 49 RBI in 116 games for the Reds’ Single-A affiliate, Dayton Dragons.

Thomas Hatch

Thomas Hatch

Thomas Hatch – Hatch first attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Edmond back in September 2011, a College PREP Program (previously the Premium Video Program) in Oklahoma City in March of 2012. The 6’2, 200 pound right-handed pitcher was then selected to participate in the 2012 Under Armour All-America Game and was impressive during his outing, posting a 1-2-3 inning, throwing strikes with both his fastball (heavy, upper 80’s MPH), breaking ball (upper 70’s MPH with good depth) and change-up that had good life on it.

Going into 2013 as one of the top pitchers in his class and the No. 1 prospect to come out of Oklahoma, Baseball America listed Hatch as the 95th-best high school prospect in the country for the 2013 MLB Draft where he was selected in the 32nd round of the ’13 Draft by the Colorado Rockies.

Opting to stay in school, Hatch made 13 appearances on the mound for the Cowboys in 2014, earning a win in his first career start against Stephen F. Austin and was the starting pitcher against Texas in an elimination game at the Big 12 Baseball Championship.

Hatch did not pitch this season, due to arm concerns, but aims to bounce back in a big way for 2016.
