Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Spotlight – Redwood City, California

The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout Tour rolls into Redwood City, CA this Sunday, March 20th to Cañada College, for pre-high school players, ages 12-14 and high-school athletes, ages 14-18.

Cañada College is a community college in the San Francisco Bay Area with a student enrollment of nearly 7,000 offers more than 40 quality instructional programs under three instructional divisions: Business, Design & Workforce; Humanities & Social Sciences; and Science & Technology.

The Cañada College Colts baseball team has been one of the most successful Junior College baseball programs in Northern California with former major league stars that have played there such as former Seattle Mariner and Baltimore Orioles infielder, Harold Reynolds and former Montreal Expos and Chicago Cubs outfielder, Moisés Alou.

Today’s players highlighted come from different parts of California but are starting to see success come their way both collegiately and professionally.

Jonas Wyatt

Jonas Wyatt – The right-hander hails from Lancaster, CA and was the Cleveland Indians sixth round selection in last year’s Draft from Quartz Hill High School in Quartz Hill, CA.

We first saw the tall, athletic righty after his junior season at Quartz Hill during the 2014 Under Armour Southwest Championships, throwing a fastball that sat low-90s and a good 12/6 curve with break in the low-70s. Six months later, Wyatt attended the 2015 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament and relied on his tremendous arm strength during the event, topping out at 93 MPH with his fastball. As a senior, Wyatt went 7-3 with a 2.24 ERA and an eye-popping 111 strikeouts in 59 1/3 innings.

Scouts knew of his promising future and drafted at just 17 years old, the 6’1″, 185 pound Wyatt demonstrated his ability to get hitters out at the professional level. Wyatt, who turned 18 last September, appeared in eight games after being selected by the Indians, playing for the rookie-league Indians in Arizona, finishing with a 1.62 ERA and 20 strikeouts to just six walks in 16 2/3 innings pitched.

Peter Lambert

Peter Lambert – The Colorado Rockies selected the 18-year old pitcher in the second round of last year’s Draft out of San Dimas High School in San Dimas, CA.

Lambert was the 2015 Southern California Player of the Year in High School baseball by The L.A. Times after going 13-0 with a 0.34 ERA during his senior season. It was a special season for San Dimas as he helped them advance deep into the postseason, throwing two shutouts in the Southern Section Division 3 playoffs, including a 15-strikeout performance.

We first saw Peter in 2013 at the Under Armour Southwest Championships and then again a year later at the July 2014 Baseball Factory Team One West event where he hit 91 on the radar gun and spun an 11/5 curve with late break and sharp action. He threw both pitches for strikes and mechanically pitched well, with a polished and smooth delivery.

Scouts noted that Peter in the near future was going to be a “weekend starter at the next level and beyond” and that’s exactly what has happened for the right-hander, who had committed to UCLA, opting to sign with the Rockies and debuting with Grand Junction, Colorado’s rookie-league team, making eight starts. He didn’t win any games, but all things considered, the more impressive display was an ERA of 3.45 and 26 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings against hitters that were a few years older.

Cole Heavilin

Cole Heavilin – Heavilin is a 2015 graduate from Rancho Buena Vista High School in Vista, CA, after playing for coach Tim Fay and as a senior, was named to the Second Team All-Avocado League. Now in his freshman season as an infielder with the Wagner College Seahawks baseball program, Cole is looking to make the most of his opportunity.

We first saw Cole in September of 2012 at our Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Phoenix, AZ and just four short months later, was a 2013 Under Armour Pre-Season All-American where he showed as a young short stop with good athleticism. From there, Heavilin joined us twice more at National Tryout events in beautiful San Diego, CA where he continued to shine with the glove and the bat, with the range in the field to make tough backhanded plays and smooth rhythm at the plate, driving the barrel to the ball and the ball to all fields. In July 2014 we saw him one last time at Baseball Factory’s Team One West event showing as an athletic MIF with the ability to play at the next level.

These athletes are continuing to reach their potential by having attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory event. Don’t miss out on your opportunity today! Please visit our tryout schedule for more information on an event coming to a town near you!
