American League and National League Championship Series Matchups Set As MLB Postseason Rolls On

The New York Mets became the fourth and final team to move on in the postseason last night, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-2 to win the series in five games as the playoff picture continues to take shape for both the American League and National League Championship Series set to begin this weekend.

In the American League, the Toronto Blue Jays will take on last year’s American League participant in the World Series, the Kansas City Royals in a re-match of the 1985 American League Championship Series. Game One of this Best-of-Seven series begins tonight in Kansas City at 7:30 P.M. on FOX.

The National League Championship Series pits two teams with fanbases starved for October baseball, as the Chicago Cubs will travel to Citi Field in New York to take on the Mets. The Cubs are making their first NLCS appearance since 2003 and the Mets are making their first appearance since 2006. Game One is Saturday night at 7:30 P.M. on TBS.

Here are some notable performers for each team who once participated in Baseball Factory events:

Toronto Blue Jays

Josh Donaldson – (2004 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-American) Donaldson went 4-for-18 with a double, two home runs and four RBI during the series. He homered in Game two and four of the series. His home run in Game four got the scoring started for Toronto, beating Texas 8-4 to send the series back to Canada for the series-deciding game.

Troy Tulowitzki – (2001 Team One West) Tulowitzki went 2-for-21 with one homer and four RBI during the series. Tulo drove in four of the Blue Jays five runs in Game three, all three coming on a two-out home run in the sixth inning that gave the Blue Jays a 5-0 lead.

Jose Bautista – (1999 Team One National) Bautista went 6-for-22 with two doubles, two home runs and five RBI during the series. Bautista’s go-ahead 7th inning homerun in Game five of the ALDS put the Blue Jays ahead of the Texas Rangers in a four-run inning, propelling Toronto to a 6-3 win and their first ALCS appearance since 1993.

Kansas City Royals

Eric Hosmer – (Under Armour Baseball Factory College PREP, 2006 Baseball Factory All-American) Hosmer went 4-for-21 with a home run, five RBI and three runs scored as the Royals climbed out of a 2-1 series hole against the Houston Astros to advance to their second straight A.L. Championship series.

Chicago Cubs

Kyle Hendricks – (Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout) Hendricks started Game two in St. Louis against the Cardinals and pitched very well, despite not gaining the victory, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, three earned runs and striking out seven while walking none.

Addison Russell – (2010 Under Armour All-American) Russell went 2-for-8 with a triple, an RBI and a stolen base. His sacrifice fly in Game two gave the Cubs a 2-1 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish to tie the series at one.

Anthony Rizzo – (2006 Team One South, 2006 Cape Cod High School All-Star Game) Rizzo went 3-for-14 with two homers, two RBI and three runs scored. Rizzo’s second homer of the series, a solo shot in the sixth inning, put Chicago up 5-4 in Game four as the Cubs clinched a series win for the first time ever at Wrigley Field.

Kris Bryant – (2008 Under Armour Pre-Season All-American) Named by Baseball America as their Rookie of the Year, Bryant will almost assuredly be named MLB’s ROY as well as the young power hitter went 3-for-17 with a triple, a homer, two RBI and a run scored. Bryant homered in Game three, hitting a two-run shot in the fifth to give the Cubs the lead.

New York Mets

David Wright – (1999 Team One East, 2000 Team One National) Wright only collected one hit in the series versus the Dodgers, but, it proved to be a big hit, driving in two runs on a single to push the Mets lead to 3-0 in Game 1 at Dodgers Stadium.
