Baseball Factory Alumni Notebook (Week of 3/5/18)

Each week in the Alumni Notebook, we look back at performances from around the game of baseball. This week, we highlight Factory alumni with notable performances across high school, collegiate and professional ranks. Steve Bernhardt, Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations for the Factory provides information on the Factory alumni.

MLB Spring Training

Daniel Vogelbach

Daniel Vogelbach, 1B, Seattle Mariners – slashing .433/.564/.800 with five doubles, two homers, six RBI

Lewis Brinson, OF, Miami Marlins – .353, five doubles, a homer and four RBI

Francisco Lindor, SS, Cleveland Indians – .303, 3 2B, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 3 SB

On March 8th in a game versus the Baltimore Orioles in Sarasota, FL, fans of the Toronto Blue Jays were treated to a glimpse into the future, as former Under Armour All-Americans, Anthony Alford (2011) went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple and Bo Bichette (2015) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs batted in. The Blue Jays won 9-3.

College

Andrew Papantonis, IF, Virginia – Collected his first collegiate hit for the Cavaliers – which happened to be a two-run HR – on March 6th in a win against Davidson. He finished the game 2-for-2 with three RBI and a walk. Papantonis was a 2016 Under Armour Baseball Factory All-American.

Seth Beer, OF, Clemson – Seth homered in all three games of the series against ACC foe Georgia Tech over the weekend. To go along with his 3 HRs, Seth scored five times and drove in four while earning ACC Player of the Week honors for the Tigers, who are currently 16-1. Beer, the two-time UA BF All-American (2014-2015), is hitting .276 with a team-leading six home runs and 12 RBI to go along with 16 walks.

Parker Kelly

Sean Chandler, P, Iowa Western CC – Named the NJCAA Pitcher of the Week. Over his last two starts, Sean has earned two victories throwing a total of 10 innings without allowing a run, and striking out 18. Chandler attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Council Bluffs, IA back in 2014.

Luke Scoggins, CF, Manhattanville – Luke homered in back-to-back games for the Valiants. He went 2-4 with a HR vs. No. #17 Johns Hopkins and followed it up the next day by going 2-for-3 with a double, home run and two walks against No. #20 Salisbury. Through his first four games, Scoggins has collected eight hits in 13 at-bats, with three doubles, two homers and seven RBI. Luke attended a UA BF College PREP in Brentwood, NY in 2014.

Jared Janczak, RHP, TCU – Named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, Jared pitched seven strong innings in a win over the University of Southern California. He didn’t allow a run or any walks, while striking out eight, lowering his season ERA to 2.08. Janczak, a redshirt junior, attended a UA BF National Tryout in Houston, TX back in 2012.

Parker Kelly, RHP, Oregon – Parker holds the distinction as a four-time Under Armour Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-American and earned Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honors last week. He made three appearances on the week throwing seven innings and striking out 14 batters while only allowing one hit. Kelly attended numerous Baseball Factory events, including: two College PREP events, two Team One West Showcase events and a Team One South Showcase.

High School

Matthew Liberatore, LHP, Mountain Ridge HS – One of the top players in the entire 2018 class, the lefty is off to a great start. The MVP of the 2017 Under Armour All-America Game has been up to 95 mph and has struck out 23 hitters in just 12.1 innings pitched.

Cade Beloso

Nolan Gorman, 3B, Sandra Day O’Connor HS – Another top 2018 player, Nolan is hitting .455 through nine games with two doubles and three home runs. Gorman was also a big part of the 2017 Under Armour All-America Game, winning the home-run derby prior to the game.

JD Tease, IF, North Florida Christian – JD is off to a hot start with his .750 batting average through seven games putting him among the nation’s leaders. He is 18-for-24 with nine doubles and 10 runs batted in. In January, the Tallahassee, FL native attended a UA BF College PREP event in his hometown and is a 2019 prospect to keep an eye on.

Cade Beloso, 1B, John Curtis Christian – Cade has posted big numbers through his first 11 games this season. He is hitting .484 with three doubles, a triple and six home runs. He’s also 1-0 on the mound with two saves and a clean 0.00 ERA. Beloso attended both a UA BF Interactive Video Program and College PREP in 2014 and was a 2015 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-American.

Gunnar Hoglund, RHP/3B, Dayspring Christian Academy – The two-way star has been outstanding in all facets so far this season. On the mound, Gunnar is 3-0, has yet to allow a run and has struck out 41 in 17 innings pitched. At the plate he’s hitting .467 with three home runs.
