Baseball Factory Alumni Notebook (Week of 4/3/18)
Each week in the Alumni Notebook, we look back at notable performances from around the game of baseball, across high school, collegiate and professional ranks. Steve Bernhardt, Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations for the Factory provides information on the Factory alumni.
MLB
Chris Owings, Diamondbacks, .353, two doubles, HR, six RBI and a stolen base. Owings attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Greenville, SC in 2008.
Josh Bell, Pirates, .333, two doubles, HR, seven RBI for the Pirates who are off to an impressive 8-2 start.
AJ Pollock, Diamondbacks – Owings teammate leads the National League in doubles with seven. Hitting .310 with a triple, homer, nine RBI and four stolen bases. Pollock attended numerous Baseball Factory National Tryouts and the Team One East Showcase in 2005. He was also a 2006 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-American.
Bryce Harper, Nationals – The dynamic outfielder leads the majors in home runs and walks. Bryce is hitting .333, with six homers, 12 RBI and 16 walks. Harper has an on-base percentage of .529 and is slugging .879. Bryce attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Las Vegas, NV in 2008.
College
Seth Beer, Clemson – Beer seems to make our list every week, and for good reason. The two-time Under Armour All-American was selected as the NCBWA Player of the Month for March. He was 20-for-68 with eight HR, 20 RBI and a .662 slugging percentage. Beer is a two-time Under Armour All-American (2014 & 2015).
Austin Wilhite, Georgia Tech – Had an inside-the-park HR and a double against Florida State on Sunday, driving in five runs. For the week he hit .533 earning him ACC Player of the Week honors. Wilhite attended the Under Armour Futures East and Futures South Showcases in late 2014.
Mitchell Kilkenny, Texas A&M – Named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week, after his nine-inning complete game win over LSU. Allowed one run on 5 hits and struck out four in the 3-1 victory. He is now 7-0 on the season. Kilkenny attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Houston, TX and the UA Southwest Championships in 2014.
Kenyon Yovan, University of Oregon – Pac 12 Pitcher of the Week – Beat Stanford pitching six scoreless innings and striking out nine. Also went 4-for-10 with two doubles as DH. Yovan attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Wilsonville, OR in 2013 and is a two-time Under Armour Pre-Season All-American (2014-15).
High School
Austin Wells, Bishop Gorman – The 2017 Under Armour All-American went 2-for-4 with a double and the game-winning HR in a game against Riverton (UT) in the Desert Classic. His three-run blast in the bottom of the 6th gave them a 7-6 lead and put them ahead for good in the come-from-behind win. Austin participated in the 2014 UA Southwest Championships and the SoCal Classic.
Cole Wilcox, Heritage HS – The 2017 Under Armour All-American pitched 6.2 innings allowing 0 ER and striking out 11. He is now 5-1 on the season with 55 Ks in 33.2 IP. Cole is also swinging the bat with authority, hitting .490 with 5 HRs. Wilcox also played in the 2016 Baseball Factory Team One Futures South Showcase.
Blaze Alexander, IMG Academy (FL) – The 2017 Under Armour All-American shortstop continues to hit well this spring against top competition including tournaments in AZ and CA. He’s currently hitting .429 with seven homers for the year. Known for his strong arm, he’s also jumped on the mound where he has three saves in three appearances without allowing an earned run. Blaze also attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in Fort Myers, FL in 2014 and the 2017 Baseball Factory Team One National Florida Showcase.
