Blake Wagenseller Enters 2017 Top Five With 6.45
After a 6.45 from Stanford commit 2017 OF Blake Wagenseller (Poway, CA) at the February 7 Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout in San Diego, only five hundredths of a second separate the top five runners in the class of 2017.
Wagenseller’s 6.45 earned him solo fifth-place in the 2017 class, with the times of 6.40, 6.41, 6.42 and 6.44 just ahead of him seemingly within reach. We’ve seen some recent movement at the very top, with OF Cole Brannen (Elko, GA) gaining on current leader OF Garrett Mitchell (Anaheim, CA) in a move from 6.43 to 6.41 at the 2016 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. Both Brannen and Mitchell are selections for the 2016 Under Armour All-America Game, scheduled for July 23 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Also in San Diego, SS Nate Smolinski (La Jolla, CA) ran 6.90 to tie for the seventh-fastest time so far among 2019 graduates, and 2017 OF/RHP Sean Ross (El Cajon, CA) posted 6.75 to mark an improvement of nearly two tenths of a second since the 2015 Under Armour Futures West Showcase.
At the Mobile, AL tryout, 2B Landon Jordan (Poplarville, MS) ran 6.63 to enter fifth-place on his own in the class of 2018, and 2B Will Baker (Dothan, AL) posted 6.75 to join the class of 2017 leaderboard.
Hometown boy 2017 2B Ryan Kasper ran 6.73 at the Tomball, TX tryout, while OF John Tyler Mounce (Cypress, TX) ran 6.84 to take over third-place among 2019 graduates.
