Andrew Papantonis is an outstanding, somewhat under-the-radar prospect who has an extremely unique set of tools. This shortstop’s measurables are at the top of the scale. At Baseball Factory’s event in Georgia, he ran a 6.48 60-yard dash, threw 93 mph and had an exit velocity off the bat of 96 mph. He showed additional athleticism with a broad jump of 9’6” and 5-10-5 shuttle times of 4.38 and 4.20.
Aside from those numbers, Andrew has baseball skills and can play the game. His instincts and first-step quickness give him excellent range, while his hands are soft and sure. He has a quick exchange and release and is able to throw from multiple arm angles with accuracy. At the plate, Andrew shows very quick hands and makes consistent, hard contact. He has natural lift to his swing with power to the pull side.
Add in that Andrew plays with outstanding energy, is a natural leader and has played the QB position on the football field, and you have a lot to like. His skills need some refining, but the ceiling is extremely high.
