Road to Wrigley – Ben Jordan
Ben Jordan / RHP / 6-9 / 220 / Olive Hill, KY / Commitment to Kentucky
Right-handed pitcher Ben Jordan stands 6’9” tall and his outstanding extension makes it look like he is nearly handing the ball to the catcher. That puts hitters at a distinct disadvantage to start, and it gets worse from there. Ben has a coordinated delivery that allows his extra-long frame to work and sync and deliver consistent strikes, and his velocity has reportedly reached the mid 90s at times this summer.
A broken hand while hitting in the high school season took away some of his mound time, but he is back now and throwing on a regular basis. The high ¾ slot–almost overhand–creates a big angle to all of his pitches. His curveball has almost true 12-6 break with big downer action and shows some feel for an upper 70s changeup.
Add in a slight hesitation to add to the deception and you have a very uncomfortable pitcher to face. Look for Ben to continue to prove that he has high-level starter stuff when he takes the mound at Wrigley Field .
