Seven Shortstops Join Class 60 Yard Dash Leaders

It was a good weekend for shortstops with speed. We saw at least one shortstop qualify among the leaders in their class at each of the three Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryouts, while four shortstops — all 2019 graduates — posted qualifying 60 yard dashes in Waco, Texas. Interestingly, a third baseman and two catchers — positions where don’t normally expect to see speed — rounded out the group of runners.
The top time from the weekend was 6.69, turned in by 2016 SS Cary Campbell (Conyers, GA) at the Douglasville, GA UA tryout.
2018 3B Jared Lorenz (McGregor, TX) was the next fastest, with a time of 6.81 at the Waco, TX UA tryout. Lorenz was among three non-shortstop qualifiers in the 60 yard dash, and also posted qualifying measures in exit velocity (90 mph) and raw velocity (85 mph).
Three shortstops joined a group of 27 players in the 2019 class to post sub-seven 60 yard dashes:
— SS Tyler Hudson (Hillsboro, TX) at 6.91
— SS Spencer Young (Belton, TX) at 6.97
— SS Seth Stephenson (Buda, TX) at 6.98
Fellow 2019 RHP/SS Hayden Keidl (Abilene, TX) ran 7.00 in Waco to qualify among class leaders. A talented overall player, he appears on three other leaderboards: exit velocity (85 mph), raw velocity (84 mph), and fastball velocity (79 mph).
Riley Calhoon (Winner, SD) and Michael Loggins (Conroe, TX), both 2018 shortstops, 6.91 and 6.98 respectively to join the top runners in their class, while a pair of catchers entered the 2019 leaderboard.
C Zackery Ivie (Livingston, TX) qualified among the top 2019 catch & throw guys with a 2.16 pop time, and added a 7.17 60 yard dash for his second leaderboard appearance. Like Hayden Keidl above, C Caleb Munton (Abilene, TX) found himself among the 2019 leaders in four categories following the Waco, TX UA tryout. He ran 7.18 in the 60 yard dash, recorded a low pop time of 2.10, posted 84 mph exit velocity and touched 78 mph raw velocity.
